Privacy Policy

Overview

Nudge (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Nudge application and website at usenudge.ai (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store, and share your information when you use our Service, which includes our web application, mobile applications, and AI-powered task management features.

We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data with transparency. We collect only the minimum information necessary to provide our Service and we never sell your personal information to third parties.

Information We Collect

Account Information

Email address and name

Collected when you sign up via email or Google Sign-In. Used for authentication, account management, and service communications.

Authentication credentials

If you sign up with email, your password is securely hashed using bcrypt. If you use Google Sign-In, we store only an OAuth token—never your Google password.

Task and Productivity Data

Tasks and reminders

Task titles, descriptions, notes, deadlines, priorities, urgency levels, subtasks, and completion status.

Chat and conversation history

Messages you exchange with the Nudge AI assistant, including task-related queries and responses.

Usage patterns and preferences

Task completion patterns, scheduling preferences, and behavioral insights that help the AI provide personalized reminders.

Settings and Device Information

User preferences

Timezone, notification preferences, quiet hours, working hours, and AI feature settings.

Device tokens

Firebase Cloud Messaging tokens used to deliver push notifications to your devices. These are device-specific identifiers and can be revoked at any time.

Calendar Data (Optional)

Google Calendar events

If you choose to connect Google Calendar, we access event titles, times, attendee counts, and free/busy status to help schedule reminders around your existing commitments. See the Google Calendar Integration section below for full details on how we handle this data.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To create and manage your account and authenticate your identity
  • To store, organize, and display your tasks, notes, and reminders
  • To send you intelligent, context-aware push notifications and reminders at optimal times
  • To power AI features such as natural language task parsing, conversational task management, and smart scheduling
  • To sync your tasks and data across your devices (web and mobile)
  • To respect your calendar availability when scheduling reminders (if calendar integration is enabled)
  • To learn your preferences and patterns over time so reminders become more effective
  • To communicate important service updates, security alerts, and account-related notifications
  • To monitor and improve the reliability and performance of the Service

We do not use your personal information for advertising purposes. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.

AI Features & Your Data

AI Features Are Optional

You control whether AI features are enabled in Settings

When AI features are enabled, Nudge processes your data to provide intelligent assistance:

  • Parse natural language input to create tasks with dates, priorities, and recurrence
  • Provide a conversational AI assistant for task management, scheduling, and productivity guidance
  • Suggest optimal reminder timing based on your completion patterns and habits
  • Generate contextual, motivating reminder messages
  • Learn and store relevant memories and preferences from your conversations to personalize the experience over time

How AI processing works: Your task content and conversation context are sent to third-party AI providers (Anthropic Claude and OpenAI) for processing. This data is transmitted securely over encrypted connections.

Your data is not used to train AI models. Both Anthropic and OpenAI have committed in their API terms that data sent through their APIs is not used for model training. Your conversations remain private.

Memory system: Nudge may store learned observations, preferences, and patterns from your conversations as “memories” to improve future interactions. These memories are stored in your account and are not shared with other users. You can disable AI features at any time in Settings, and you may request deletion of stored memories.

Google Calendar Integration

Nudge offers an optional Google Calendar integration to help schedule reminders around your existing commitments. This section explains exactly how we access and use your Google Calendar data.

What We Access

  • Read access to your Google Calendar events (titles, times, attendee counts, free/busy status) to understand your schedule
  • Write access limited to a dedicated “Nudge” calendar only, using the calendar.app.created scope

We never modify your primary Google Calendar. Nudge can only create and manage events on its own dedicated “Nudge” calendar. We cannot edit, move, or delete events on your personal or work calendars.

How We Use Calendar Data

  • To display your schedule alongside tasks in the Nudge calendar view
  • To avoid sending reminders during meetings or busy blocks
  • To suggest optimal times for task scheduling based on your free time
  • To provide the AI assistant with schedule context for better recommendations

Your Control

  • Calendar integration is entirely optional and requires your explicit consent via Google OAuth
  • You can disconnect Google Calendar at any time from Settings
  • When you disconnect, we revoke our access token and stop syncing calendar data
  • Previously synced calendar events are deleted from our servers upon disconnection

Nudge's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Third-Party Services

Nudge integrates with the following third-party services to provide functionality. Each service receives only the minimum data necessary for its purpose:

Google Sign-In

Authentication via OAuth 2.0. Receives your email and profile name.

Google Calendar API

Optional calendar sync. Read-only access to your calendars; write access to Nudge calendar only.

Anthropic (Claude API)

AI assistant processing. Receives task context and conversation messages. Data not used for model training.

OpenAI API

Supplementary AI processing and embeddings for the memory system. Data not used for model training.

Firebase Cloud Messaging

Push notification delivery on web and mobile. Receives device tokens and notification content.

Sentry

Error tracking and performance monitoring. Receives anonymized error reports to help us fix bugs and improve reliability.

Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. Specifically:

  • Account data is retained until you delete your account
  • Tasks and notes are retained until you delete them individually or delete your account
  • Chat conversation history is retained for the duration of your account
  • AI memories and learned preferences are retained until you disable AI features or delete your account
  • Calendar data is deleted when you disconnect Google Calendar or delete your account
  • Device tokens are removed when you unregister a device or delete your account
  • Error logs (Sentry) are retained for 90 days

When you delete your account, all associated data is permanently removed from our servers within 30 days. Backup copies in encrypted backups may persist for up to 90 days before being automatically purged.

Data Security

We take the security of your data seriously and implement industry-standard measures to protect it:

  • All data in transit is encrypted using TLS (HTTPS)
  • Passwords are hashed using bcrypt with salting
  • Authentication uses JWT tokens with short-lived access tokens (15 minutes) and longer-lived refresh tokens (7 days)
  • Database access is restricted and credentials are never exposed in client-side code
  • Third-party API keys are stored securely as environment variables, not in source code
  • We use Sentry for real-time error monitoring to quickly detect and respond to security issues

While we implement robust security practices, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security but commit to promptly notifying affected users in the event of a data breach.

You can request a copy of all data associated with your account.
